So I put this on my facebook but for those of you who haven't read it here it is:
So I was walking around the other day and over heard a conversation between two girls that hadn't seen eachother in a while. They greeted eachother in the only way girls do (hugs and shrill excited voices) they continued talking but the one thing i heard was "Oh so how are you enjoying married life?"... can you respond in anyother way aside from Great!... no, you can't
I went on a date last night with a Sr. When we went out for ice cream drove up to the Provo Canyon Park which if you have never been up there you have to drive past the temple to get there. We then sat in his car (lights off so I coudn't even see) and ate our icecream and talked and this was a part of our conversation (sr.) " So where do you see yourself in two years." (Me) "well I will be 20... so maybe.... getting ready to put in my papers for a mission" He said "well what if you're married?" (me)"'i don't plan on being married when I'm 20" (sr.)"well no one plans on it" (me)"but I can prevent it"It was a great BYU experience
I always see kids and babies on campus and I go through the same thought process everytime I see one:
1. Aww its a baby! Its so cute, oh look its smiling/crying/sleeping. I want to hold it
2. Where are the parents, oh there they are
3. Oh my gosh! the mom is my age
4. hmm I wonder where they go when the parents have class... can you bring babies to a lecture?
I think BYU is the only place where if you get injured everyone who sees you will ask you if you're ok, offer to carry you to church/to your apartmen/make you brownies/not laugh at you if you did something stupid to injur yourselfI think Provo has the most college spirit of any college town. Honestly the sound energy of Provo, Utah after a BYU football win could probably produce enough energy to run the power for the entire city.
I was talking to my roommate the other day and we dicided that talking to guys is kinda scary here... some guys are really cool, don't get me wrong, but a lot of guys you start to realize one of two things
A. If they're a return missionary you are pretty much being put on a "potential wives" list
or
B. If they have yet to go on a mission the guy is probably putting you on a "write me on my mission" list
College classrooms are kind of scary. They are SO big and none of them have assigned seating and you usually don't know anyone in the class. You have to search the room, decide which quadrant you want to sit in, front left/right back left/right, whether you want to sit by anyone, if there is anyone cute to sit by, whether you want to sit on the edge and make it difficult for everyone else who wants to sit in your row.... its a lot to think about, I have found that there is always one rule... unless you have to, there must be atleast one seat open next to you. Sitting right next to someone you don't know is practically illegal.
Along with sitting in classes I have found that no one wants to sit by the cripple. A bunch of people are willing offer to carry your backpack or open doors for you, but no one wants to sit by the cripple, especially if you have to store your crutches under the chairs, which I don't get why thats a problem because everyone complains about lack of space and trys to stick their feet out as far as possible but if there is a pair of crutches under your chair, a space rarely used, you cannot sit there...
These are some of the clubs at BYU:FencingBombardmentBreak Dance ClubTall Club Juggling clubJane Austen RegencyMidieval club..... yeah.... this is where I go to school
BYU is a huge campus, approx 35,000 but does that stop me from running into old friends from camps, siblings of people I met at EFY 3 years ago, being in the same ward as a kid I kind of know from my grandparents old ward... no. all of this has happened and it has only been 2 weeks.
BYU is the only place I know of that has kareoke in the main square of campus AND has people actually participating.
I was looking up some information about BYU and there are 70 languages taught here. And 75% of all of the students have "some foreign language proficiency"
Katie - Your blog post bring back many fond memories - aren't you having so much fun??? I totally know what you mean about not knowing where to sit and how no one sits by each other. That made me laugh. Keep writing - I love reading it!!! (Heather Matthews)
